Gresham College (est. 1597) an independently funded educational institution, sought to appoint a Chair who would work closely with the Academic Board, Senior Management and sponsors to ensure that it continues to provide free, university-level public lectures of the highest standard. The successful candidate needed to have Board-level experience, ideally be an expert in digital/technology and have Livery company experience.

In less than a month, Nurole surfaced Loyd Grossman. Best known for MasterChef and pasta sauces, Loyd is also known for his multiple philanthropic board roles. He was the former Commissioner of English Heritage; he was Chair of the University for the Creative Arts, Heritage Alliance, and of the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association. He founded and was Chairman of the 24 Hour Museum (now Culture24) which digitally connects arts and heritage organisations with audiences and capacity building through training and conferences. He is also currently Chair of The Royal Parks, a new charity to manage London’s Royal Parks. He brought a strong track record of supporting liveries through his involvement with the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars as a Middle Warden, an Honorary Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters.

The biggest challenge we face is how to bring in new people who may have incredible intelligence, innovation but don’t have the experience - we need a strategy to recruit younger people and those with different types of experience to our boards.
