Role specification

In a fast-changing sector, the Carbon Trust requires a dynamic, diverse Board which is representative of, and able to support, a rapidly growing organisation. To achieve this, it seeks a new Non-Executive Director to ensure that it has the diversity, capacity and skills to support its core business, grow new ventures, drive material impact and address the urgent challenges of climate change.

The Board is collectively responsible for promoting the overall strategic direction and performance of the Carbon Trust. All Non-Executive Directors are required to listen to the information presented, proposals recommended and performance delivered and be willing and able to challenge their fellow directors where required. They must satisfy themselves as to the appropriateness and integrity of the information that comes to the board, and the effectiveness of the controls and systems which are in place to ensure good governance of the group.

This Non-Executive Director will bring fresh perspectives to governance, to reflect their wider experience and capabilities, supporting the Executive Directors and management team in their leadership of the organisation by providing both constructive challenge and advice.


Person specification

The Carbon Trust seeks a new Non-Executive Director to join the Board. The successful candidate will bring recent senior leadership experience in digital transformation, preferably in the professional services / consulting sectors. They will be a commercially astute strategic thinker, with expertise in either internal or external systems.

While the size and scale of previous companies are not exclusionary, candidates who have covered international scopes would be of particular interest to the Board. Individuals will also bring a passion for the mission of the Carbon Trust and ambition to accelerate the move to a decarbonised world.

The successful candidate will be someone who has the gravitas to deal with various stakeholders and who is not afraid to speak their mind to provide strategic challenge to the Board where appropriate. The Carbon Trust welcomes applications from individuals who have not previously held non-executive or advisory board roles.

Terms of appointment

Board meetings can be held virtually, however ideally NEDs will come into the office 2-3 times per year. Where travel is requested, reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. Time commitment is estimated at 12 days per annum, including quarterly Board meetings, strategy days, ad hoc discussions with members of the management team and Board, analysis of company papers and documentation, and further ad hoc support.


Location

The Carbon Trust is based in the UK but this role can be carried out in a hybrid manner, and candidates can be based internationally.
