The British Board of Film Classification
Advisory Panel on Children's Viewing - Independent Panel Members
The Advisory Panel on Children's Viewing was set up by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) in 1999 to provide advice on issues relating to classifying content for children. The role of the Panel is to advise the BBFC on issues concerning the interests and welfare of children and young people that are relevant to the BBFC’s regulatory duties. BBFC were seeking new independent members to join their Panel and contribute their expertise.
Through Nurole they appointed three candidates:
– Catherine Doran has spent her career providing and developing services, policy and regulation to enhance and protect the lives of children and young people, and is currently Non-Executive Director at Cafcass and at the charity Over the Wall, part of the Serious Fun Network.
– Dr Helen Molden is a Senior Paediatric Psychologist at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, with over 20 years’ experience working with children and young people, including periods at BBC Children in Need and Childline.
– Catherine McAllister has worked in children’s media since 2005. As the Head of Editorial Standards at BBC Children’s, Catherine is an expert in policy and practice related to digital and broadcast content for children and young people.
It was a pleasure working with Nurole throughout the process, and I was very impressed with the candidates they were able to match us with. The calibre was high across the board and I've no doubt that the successful candidates will add real value to the BBFC's Advisory Panel on Children's Viewing.

I registered and applied for this role on the back of a recommendation, which helped me hear about this role. I have always been passionate about screen & film for young people, so this is a fantastic opportunity for me to assist the BBFC in its work.
