About

Prior Park Schools is a family of Christian schools based in Bath and Gibraltar. Together, the Schools offer education for pupils aged between 3 and 18. Since the establishment of Prior Park College in 1830, the family has grown, with The Paragon School joining in 2006, and Prior Park School Gibraltar being opened by Prior Park Schools in 2016.

The Schools’ Mission is to steward a thriving family of communities with love for the young people they serve at their heart. These vibrant communities cultivate creativity, foster integrity, and transform lives.

Across three sites, the Schools educate over 1100 young people of all faiths and none. The values underpinning the Mission and the Schools’ educational offerings are CuriosityGenerosity, and Courage. The Schools believe that quality education changes lives and that outstanding schools are engines for transforming society.

The Schools provide excellent teaching, equipping students to leave for a variety of exciting destinations. The success of what the Schools do in the classroom is intertwined with their co-curricular offerings. The young people undertake a wide variety of activities, which, in addition to being fun, challenge them to persevere to succeed. They work together imaginatively and courageously to hone the skills they need to make their way in the world.

The Schools have long been renowned for the quality of their pastoral care which enables young people to feel safe and secure to challenge themselves, to learn who they want to be, and to discover the difference they want to make.

Role specification

In anticipation of prospective retirements as terms of office come to an end, the Schools are looking for a number of new Trustees to provide strategic leadership in conjunction with the Schools’ Executive Team.

Trustees will:

  • Share a commitment to the Schools’ ethos and values and be aligned behind the Mission
  • Decide upon the strategic direction of the Schools
  • Provide support and constructive challenge to the Heads and their leadership teams
  • Join one or more of the Board committees and visit the Schools to meet students and staff

Members of the Board are Trustees and Directors of Prior Park Educational Trust.

Person specification

The Schools are looking for individuals who will bring dynamism, passion, creativity, and proactivity to the role. They are especially interested in Trustees with strong strategic experience in the areas of Safeguarding / Pastoral Care / Mental Health, Estates Development, Philanthropy and Commerce, but welcome applicants from a wide variety of professional and personal backgrounds. As the Chair stands down in a year's time, the Trustees would like to appoint the next Chair from within the Board so chairing experience would also be welcome.

Diversity

The Schools are committed to diversifying their Board and as those from a younger or ethnic minority background are currently under-represented, applications from these individuals would be particularly welcome.

Applications from practising Catholics are encouraged as the Trust's Articles require the majority of Board members at any time to be of the Roman Catholic faith.

Terms of appointment

There are three Board meetings per year, held in Bath. In addition, each school has its own local Board and each Trustee is a member of one of these and / or another Committee (such as Education, Finance, Audit, Investment & Risk Committee (FAIR), or Estates) depending on their skills. The successful Estates Development applicant will chair the Estates Committee.

Trustees are welcomed to engage with the busy lives of our Schools by attending the many events and fixtures which make up the Schools’ years.

The role is unremunerated but reasonable, pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed. This is a three year term, with the possibility to be renewed up to three times (for up to 12 years).

The deadline for consideration is 27th June.

If you would like to register your interest, please fill in the form below. A member of the Nurole team will be in touch ahead of the deadline to let you know whether it would be worth submitting a full application and to discuss the process further.
