Role specification
Buying over £10m of products each year, the FRC Group Supply Chain team comprises a Supply Chain Manager and a specialist in white goods (the highest value product group) working on a consultancy basis. The role identifies and onboards new suppliers, selects product lines, negotiates trading terms and manages supplier performance. The Supply Chain manager is not responsible for inventory maintenance but works very closely with the wholly separate, inventory team.
This means, as a Trustee, you will not need to roll your sleeves up and get involved in day-to-day activity – but you will be the procurement ‘champion’ within the Board of Trustees. You will help to ensure that the charity aligns its procurement processes and plans with best practice.
Challenges and opportunities for the Group in this area including leveraging its scale as it grows, helping its small suppliers grow with it, or finding new suppliers, buying direct from (often oversees) manufacturers rather than UK-based distributors, managing the performance of suppliers, and engaging with customer expectations on ESG and the sustainable development goals.
The responsibilities of this particular Trustee will include:
- Advising on procurement and supply chain strategies, as well as on sustainability within FRC Group’s supply chain
- Scrutinising and supporting the effectiveness, efficiency and cost management within the procurement function
- Providing insight into emerging and changing agendas within the procurement and supply chain sector
- Overseeing the development and successful launch of new products and services in this area
Your knowledge and experience will ensure that FRC builds a strong foundation for effectively addressing the needs of the people it serves.
Person specification
FRC Group is looking for a new Trustee with an in-depth understanding of issues around procurement and managing supply chains, who will also chair its Procurement and Supply Chain Sub-Committee. Genuine interest in positive social change is a must.
Applicants will bring:
- A sound knowledge and extensive experience of procurement or supply chains
- A commitment to using procurement as a tool to create a more just, equitable and sustainable supply chain
- Strategic thinking as well as strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
Above all, the successful candidate will have had exposure to, or a genuine interest in, positive social change. This may have been gained through previous involvement with charities, social enterprises or other non-profits, through lived experience of social deprivation, or through a personal passion for delivering social value, particularly for the communities which the Group serves in the North West and North East of England. This is more than a role; it is an opportunity to be part of a charity which transforms lives.
