About

Eversfield Preparatory School is an independent day school and registered nursery, providing high-quality education for boys and girls from age 3 to 11 years old. Based on a superb five-acre site near the centre of Solihull, Eversfield has a strong reputation in the local area for fostering a uniquely positive learning environment, combining high educational standards with a genuinely supportive and family-focused culture.

Rated 'Excellent' in all areas of its most recent ISI report, Eversfield recently received the prestigious Times Educational Supplement Independent Prep School of the Year award, indicative that Eversfield continually strives to set and meet ever higher standards in its educational and pastoral endeavours. The School benefits from teachers with deep experience in their fields and invests heavily in continuous professional development in order to ensure staff are valued, and that the School remains an employer of choice. Solihull is an area which is well-served by excellent schools, and Eversfield continues to distinguish itself in a strong field.

Throughout the pandemic, it provided an outstanding quality of at-home education, and is now focused on maintaining its competitive niche as a small, family-oriented school, producing children who are not only educationally successful, but also rounded and happy individuals who have the confidence to be their best selves. The School sets high moral standards and responsible attitudes, encouraged and supported through Christian teaching and values. Motivated by its strong values and its commitment to educating the whole child, Eversfield occupies a special place within the Solihull community. As it looks to the future, Eversfield is confident it will continue to go from strength to strength, supported and guided by a deeply committed Board.

Role specification

The Governors' primary responsibility is to provide strategic leadership, oversight, and support for the School's operations. The Board shares in the School's commitment to promoting educational achievement and outstanding pastoral care, grounded in its Christian ethos.

The Governors' duties include contributing to the development of the School's strategic plan, monitoring and evaluating the School's performance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. The Governors have ultimate responsibility for monitoring the School's budget, and for holding the executive leadership's performance to account.

All Governors must have strong interpersonal skills and be happy to work on the basis of consensus. They should be energetic, willing to build consensuses, and hold themselves to a high standard of integrity and accountability.

Person specification

The Governors are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join them, who will share in their commitment to Eversfield and all that it stands for. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and will be dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to the best possible start in life.

As Eversfield prepares for the future, it would value the perspective of a Governor with strong strategic expertise, which they will bring to bear in quality decision-making. They should offer insight, perspective and critical analysis in deliberations, contributing to discussions across the range of boardroom topics, including education, finance, human resources, estate management, and safeguarding, helping to ensure that Eversfield is well-prepared to face new challenges and opportunities. As the Governing body currently does not include either a qualified lawyer or a human resource professional, candidates with these backgrounds would be of particular interest.

All candidates should bring a collaboration and consensus-driven spirit and should support the School's Christian ethos. The successful candidate should be enthused to help the School in the next stage of its journey.

Board composition

You can read more about the Board here

Time commitment

There are four main Board meetings per year, plus an ‘away day’, usually held in the Michaelmas Term. Governors sit on at least one Committee, meeting a further three times per year. There are also specialist subcommittees dealing with estates, bursaries and remuneration, although not all Governors are members of these. Governors are encouraged to visit the school and attend events such as the Carol Service and school musical when possible.

Please note that all meetings are held in person in Solihull. This role is unremunerated but reasonable pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed.

Diversity

Eversfield is keen to ensure its governing body reflects the community it operates within. The Board welcomes applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, belief or disability. As those from an ethnic minority background are currently under-represented on the Board, applications from those individuals would be particularly encouraged. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process. In line with the Equality Act 2010, however, the organisation may employ positive action where candidates from underrepresented groups can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.
