About

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the top-ranked and top-performing healthcare providers in the UK, serving a diverse community of more than one million people. Comprising two general hospitals – Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital – and a cluster of specialist clinics, the Trust has nationally recognised expertise in areas including emergency and intensive care medicine, maternity and paediatrics, HIV / sexual health services, burns, plastics and dermatology, hospital design and digital innovation.

As the Trust's official charity, CW+ has helped to fund new state-of-the-art intensive care and neonatal intensive care units at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which have also benefited from its industry-leading work on design and the patient environment. The charity has woven the visual and performing arts into the fabric of the Trust's hospitals, bringing daily music, performance and creative activities into the wards and transforming the experience of patients, visitors and staff.

CW+ also has one of the most mature and active health innovation programmes in the NHS, supporting the development of products and services that improve patient care. Working with NHS partners, the charity has launched Best For You, a new approach to mental health care and support designed for – and in consultation with – young people and their families. With its active grants programme, CW+ also awards over £500,000 each year to hospital staff for initiatives that help deliver improvements to patient care and experience.

Role specification

The Board comprises a dozen Trustees, the majority of whom are independent of the Trust which the charity supports. Together, they oversee the work of the CEO and Senior Leadership team, who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the charity. In addition to attending quarterly meetings of the Board of Trustees, each Trustee is a member of at least one of the Board's Committees:

  • Art and Design Committee
  • Finance and Investment Committee
  • Grants Committee
  • Fundraising Governance Committee
