Visit the websiteDating back to 1938, Chesham Prep has earned a well-deserved reputation as a friendly, family-oriented school at the heart of the local community. Set in the Buckinghamshire countryside, it is a caring and nurturing community where the children aim high, work hard and achieve great things.
The School is dedicated to delivering an outstanding co-education for all its pupils; through small class sizes, the passionate and dedicated staff, and the state-of-the-art facilities which children have access to from a young age.
As well as being highly successful in preparing the children academically for the next stage of their educational journey, Chesham Prep's mission is to know each pupil as an individual and identify, develop and nurture their varied talents and strengths. There is a wealth of opportunities for these talents to flourish in the classroom, on the sports field and through involvement in the creative and performing arts. The children work hard and achieve great things. Pupils go on to produce impressive results and Senior School destinations for Chesham Prep leavers include both competitive Bucks Grammar Schools and a wide variety of excellent Senior Independent Schools.
Chesham Prep School is moving to focus on delivering an outstanding, all-round education for pupils aged 3 to 11 years. As part of this re-augmentation, the School has opened an additional Year 3 class (September 2023) and over the next four years this additional class will reach Year 6, meaning that from September 2026 there will be four classes in each of Years 3 to 6.
The School is incredibly excited about this new development, marking an important moment in the evolution of Chesham Prep. The board recognises the need to put the School firmly on the map as a place where each pupil can become a confident, independent and inquisitive learner ready for the next stage of their education journey.
The Governing Board of the School plays an important role in supporting the Head with the development of the School. Becoming a Governor is a rewarding opportunity to give back to the School community and to help ensure that the School continues to provide a fantastic education experience for children in the future. Together with the School’s management team, the Board is involved with strategic and financial planning and maintaining high standards across all aspects of the School.
Governors focus on the three core functions of governance:
Chesham Prep is looking for a new Governor with a background in marketing, communications or brand development, as it seeks to further develop its profile.
This individual will have experience in brand management and brand positioning, including campaign / segment and product marketing. They will have a strong understanding of how digital marketing, including the use of websites, emails and social media, can be used to support organisational growth. They will have experience developing brands at a strategic level, gained through a senior-level (executive or non-executive) role in marketing and communications, ideally in the commercial sector. An understanding of the local area would be beneficial.
Above all, candidates should share Chesham Prep's belief that every child deserves to thrive in a stimulating school environment, where they can learn and grow with enjoyment.
This role is unremunerated, and reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. The formal commitment is relatively light with Board and Committee meetings taking place each term and this is coupled with plenty of other opportunities to engage with staff and pupils. There will also be ad hoc communication with the Board and school visits. This appointment is for a four year term, which can be renewed at the discretion of the Board.
As Board meetings are held at the School, candidates should either be local or willing to commute.
Chesham Prep welcomes applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. As those from ethnic minority backgrounds are currently under-represented on the Board, applications from those candidates would be particularly encouraged. All appointments will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process. In line with the Equality Act 2010, however, the organisation may employ positive action where candidates from underrepresented groups can demonstrate their ability to perform the role equally well.
The deadline for consideration is 8 November 2023.
